So I just wrote a super long post that got deleted, because apparently the internet here doesn’t like me. I’m just going to write a new one with some aspects included, because I believe it’s theraputic for me anyways.

I’ve been very guilt ridden today. Thinking about my old roommates, the boy I used to babysit, the friends and ‘enemies’ I left behind in Nashua.

I want to accept responsibility for the things I’ve done wrong in those situations. Sometimes I can. But in other cases, it’s harder. I can’t regret bringing the bunnies or Monty into our lives. I just can’t. They’re my family. They teach us and we teach them. About nature, love, living simply, and commitment. And, while I can have guilt, have sorrow, and certainly have a complicated past, I can’t live with regrets. Part of that is because it’s unhealthy, but it’s also partly because I trust what God says. Forgive them for they know not what they do. This applies to me and everyone else involved. Sometimes I was ignorant, and sometimes my values just didn’t match up with other people’s. I can’t place material things above my family; whether that be the animals or my future children.

I talked to my mom today. She’s upset that I’m not working right now. Partly for reasons that aren’t as reasonable (it’s not “normal” - but nothing about our lives is normal right now!), and partly for reasons more founded (she’s paid to help me in a pinch, but Alan’s parents haven’t done the same). I felt like a failure, and I wanted to die. It’s seems trivial doesn’t it? I bet most of you can have a conversation with your parents about their expectations without feeling suicidal. But I’m still working on my emotional issues and the interpersonal conflicts that come along with those. As my grandma says, I don’t need their approval. I only need their love.

I’m going to pray today, go to therapy, and clean house (literally and metaphorically). Hopefully a combination of those things will restore me to sanity.

•A woman in Utah gave birth to twins. When one was stillborn, she was arrested and charged with criminal homicide based on the claim that her decision to delay cesarean surgery was the cause of the stillbirth.

•After a hearing that lasted less than a day, a court issued an order requiring a critically-ill pregnant woman in Washington, D.C. to undergo cesarean surgery over her objections. Neither she nor her baby survived.

•A judge in Ohio kept a woman imprisoned to prevent her from having an abortion.

•A woman in Oregon who did not comply with a doctor’s recommendation to have additional testing for gestational diabetes was subjected to involuntary civil commitment. During her detention, the additional testing was never performed.

•A Louisiana woman was charged with murder and spent approximately a year in jail before her counsel was able to show that what was deemed a murder of a fetus or newborn was actually a miscarriage that resulted from medication given to her by a health care provider.

•In Texas, a pregnant woman who sometimes smoked marijuana to ease nausea and boost her appetite gave birth to healthy twins. She was arrested for delivery of a controlled substance to a minor.

•A doctor in Wisconsin had concerns about a woman’s plans to have her birth attended by a midwife. As a result, a civil court order of protective custody for the woman’s fetus was obtained. The order authorized the sheriff’s department to take the woman into custody, transport her to a hospital, and subject her to involuntary testing and medical treatment.

“CPCs are “fake” abortion clinics run by extreme anti-abortion groups that imitate actual abortion clinics, despite the fact that they do not provide abortion or contraceptive services and the majority are not medical clinics at all. CPCs typically use deceptive advertising tactics to mask their true anti-abortion agenda and to bring women into their facilities. Using misinformation, shame and scare tactics, these centers seek to dissuade women who face unintended pregnancies from choosing abortion.”

I’ve volunteered for Crisis Pregnancy Centers before who provided pregnancy tests, free baby clothes/supplies, parenting or pregnancy courses, adoption referrals, and unbiased options counseling. A lot of them would lose their funding if they spoke out against abortion, even if one of their staff was seen protesting for example. Few are fully Christian, many are secular.

The ones that DO give false information or mistreat the women who come in SHOULD be closed down or dealt with, absolutely. But a lot of these places do plenty of good and are interested in dealing with the “crisis” (whether financial, unplanned, lack of social support, etc) element than the pregnancy element. Most of them want to help.

It is absolutely incorrect to say that every crisis pregnancy center is a fake abortion clinic.

If I was raped, I would keep the baby.

I was sexually molested as a child so I have an understanding how this loss of control through a sexual act drastically changes your life, thoughts and feelings. I have always played the what if game.

If this didn’t happen, would I be able to meet new guys without feeling like I’m going to be attacked. Could I have normal relationships where I’m not in constant fear? Would I not have clinical depression and borderline personality disorder?

I have been in some very very dark places.

But back to the question, why would I keep the baby?

I have learned and healed so much by being saved by Christ. I have a such a strong support system that I know if I got thrown into that I would have emotional, spiritual and physical support and care.

God is light. He is truth and he would never put me in a situation I could not handle.

Of all the problems I have had in the past (and believe me you would think my life is a Koren Drama) I can use that to help the women around me. I have been humbled by God and the lessons I learned can help me point the way to someone else healing.

I was made for Christ, through Christ and by Christ. If my child was a product of rape I know I would love and care for the child because I have God’s strength with me.

I still live in fear. I am in constant fear of being raped. So yes these thoughts have been on my mine. What would I do if I was sexually abused again?

Whenever I feel scared or hopeless though I go to God’s Word, so I will leave you with this

A pastor in Seoul, South Korea has created a “baby box” for people so that people who would otherwise abandon or kill their newborns can leave them somewhere safe instead. The box has a light, a towel lining, and a bell rings as soon as a baby is placed in it so the pastor, his wife, or one of his staff can come and get it right away.

Lee Jong-rak started the box in 2009, and has welcomed all babies, often disabled or the children of single mothers, that have been placed in the box since. The babies are given a loving home, food, and shelter in his orphanage. Currently, an average of 17-18 babies are placed in the box every month.

One mother who had considered poisoning her baby before she heard about the Baby Box left her baby in the box with a letter pinned to his clothing that read:

‘My baby! Mom is so sorry.
I am so sorry to make this decision.
My son! I hope you to meet great parents,
And I am very very sorry.
I don’t deserve to say a word.
sorry, sorry, and I love you my son.
Mom loves you more than anything else.

Baby boxes have existed across Europe for fucking ages now, we don’t have them in the UK as far as I know, but it might be one of the best simple ideas ever.

I remember seeing churches in Italy dating back to the Renaissance that had a revolving circular piece of stone for people to leave babies. In the U.S., we have what are known as “safe havens,” where you can drop off a baby anonymously. Most fire and police stations are safe havens.

ETA: Several people have brought this post to my attention, written by a Korean adoptee and adoption rights activist. She says many single women are pressured to give their child up for adoption, and more importantly, most of those women wouldn’t have committed infanticide if the box wasn’t available - they would go through more traditional adoption routes or raise the baby themselves. I am trying to find out now if infanticide rates are lower in states with safe haven laws. I will report back with my findings!
