Documentarist Asks About A 14 Year Old Pregnant Child Bride in labour.
Journalist: Tell me about what happened to your sister?
Brother of Bride: My friend phoned me and said, where are you? I said I was in the market, what’s wrong? He said, your sister is really ill, you’ve got to come. When I got there she couldn’t speak and didn’t recognize me. I struggled to get her into a cart and pushed her all the way to a private clinic. The doctor wouldn’t take her and told me to go to a maternity clinic. When I got there there was only one doctor who was with another patient. I went straight into the operating theater. I was really desperate. I grabbed him and begged, please see my sister. Take her to the district hospital, the doctor said. By the time I could bring her medication, it was too late. She was dead and all we could do was cry and bring her body home. There was a lot of pressure because she was getting all these marriage offers, and she got a lot of hassle for being single. Her husband got married again within 40 days. He did not tell me. She was very young, but her in-laws also made her work really hard when she was pregnant. I have only one picture to to remember her by, the rest is with her in-laws.
